Located in the charming village of Porto da Cruz, on the North coast of the island of Madeira, the Engenhos do Norte stand out as one of the three ancient mills still in operation in the region. Erected in 1927, this distillery keeps alive the tradition of producing Madeira Agricole Rum, still using machinery from that time, being even the only one in Europe to use steam as a driving force. The brands “Branca” and “970” boast the reputation of being the oldest and most awarded, being true icons of Madeiran heritage. Since 2015, the Engenhos do Norte have gained international recognition, accumulating a total of 31 medals in prestigious competitions.
